Maccabi South Africa Junior Cricket held their annual Dad's an Lad's Cricket Fun Day on 26 August 2018

Maccabi South Africa Junior Cricket held their annual Dad’s and Lad’s Cricket Fun Day on Sunday the 26th August 2018. The event was organized by Maccabi SA’s Junior Cricket convener, Joanne Tankle and her team of volunteers. 17 teams of Dad’s and their Lad’s (and one young lady) participated in this highly enjoyable day. Dad’s got to play alongside their kids against other teams. The various age groups were put into pools and enjoyed fun yet competitive games against their peers. The kids got to show up their dads and the dads got to relive their youths. Despite the odd injury (mainly to the Dads), the day was a huge success. there were spot prizes sponsored by Cutty for acts of good sportsmanship as well as a raffle aimed to raise some extra money for Junior Maccabi Cricket. the Winner of the raffle – which was half the money of the raffle, approximately R2500, unselfishly donated the money back to Junior Maccabi Cricket. Kosher Burgers were on sale, provided for by the Pie Works. It was also great to see the Gold Medal winning coach of the Junior Cricket Team at the 2017 Maccabiah, Braydon Dixon spending some time with the Kids on court as well. Lee Gruskin, the Gold Medal winning captain of the Open Cricket team at the 2017 Maccabiah participated in the activities with his younger brother Jonah. We are sure that a few dads had some Physio appointments on Monday morning but we have no doubt that they had an incredible time and can’t wait to see what other events Maccabi South Africa’s Junior Cricket volunteers will have for us in the future. Their dedication, planning and passion already 3 years before the next Maccabiah makes it clear why their Junior team performs so well at the Maccabiah.
