Maccabi SA Supports Ride4AfricaIsrael for Second Year

25 November 2015
The 947 Cycle Challenge in Johannesburg on 15 November 2015 saw the Ride4AfricaIsrael Team take part as a registered charity for the second year in a row. Over 40 riders from all walks of life who support Israel and want to help underprivileged South Africans participated in the race.

The cyclists donned the South African and Israeli flags on their kit and raised funds to import and implement Israeli agricultural and hydrological technologies for disadvantaged communities.

The Ride4AfricaIsrael initiative was launched by Mizrachi South Africa, and Maccabi SA became a partner at their inaugural race in 2014, together with the SAZF and Deisi. Following on from the team’s success in 2014, Mizrachi were able to begin raising the necessary funds to assist the communities with Israeli technology feeding schemes. The team also managed to fully sponsor 30 + young African riders from an orphanage in Vosloorus.

Maccabi SA sponsored South African Champion Cyclist and Maccabiah gold and silver medallist Kevin Evans to join the 2015 Ride4AfricaIsrael team in an advisory capacity. Due to an injury Kevin could not ride with the team but shared valuable insights and learnings about his career, training methods and his Maccabiah experiences at a team dinner before the race, and was also present on the day to provide motivational support.

The Ride4AfricaIsrael project is growing from strength and strength and we look forward to continuing to support this fantastic initiative which promotes Israel and uses prized Israeli technology to educate and assist those in need in South Africa.
