The tournament was started by Barney and Marian Gordon in 1981 and is a popular event on the Maccabi golfing calendar. Barney, who is 97-years-old, was especially delighted that 97 golfers signed up to participate in this year’s event.
Organised by Maccabi SA Golf Chairman Daniel Egdes and assisted by Gavin Abro, the event was closely contested with eventual winner Gary Bernstein shooting 67 in the second round, finishing three under par for the tournament ahead of Jonathan Josset and Judd Sundelson who both finished on one under par.
The winners of the four divisions were as follows:
“The tournament was a great success and we were pleased to see so many new faces. We are especially excited that 20 Juniors participated, which bodes well for the future of Maccabi Golf,’’ commented Egdes. “A very big thank you to our headline sponsor Investec for Business, as well as The Pro Shop and the Sunshine Tour for their support’’ added Egdes.
