Maccabi SA Bowls Makes a Comeback

21 September 2014
Maccabi SA has set out to reignite interest and enthusiasm for Maccabi bowls in South Africa.

There was a feeling of camaraderie, unity and friendship as Maccabi SA hosted its first lawn bowls tournament in 18 years at Killarney Country Club in Johannesburg. Over 40 bowlers came together to be a part of this symbolic and social tournament which took place over two Sundays, the 14th and 21st September 2014.

The very successful event was aimed at reigniting the Maccabi passion for lawn bowls amongst current Jewish bowlers and also those who hadn’t been involved for a while.

The overall winner of the tournament was Stan Friedman who was presented with the re-established Herb & Paul Nathan Trophy, by Brenda Nathan, wife of the late Paul Nathan. Additional trophies and prizes were presented to the winners of the various categories.

Congratulations to Maccabi SA Bowls Convenor Raymond Leibman and team, whose perseverance and determination has resulted in the resurgent interest in Maccabi SA bowls.

Maccabi South Africa looks forward to this enjoyable sport reclaiming its rightful place in the heart of our community.
