The inaugural Maccabi SA Junior 20/20 Cricket tournament was held over two days on 26th and 28th October 2014. The first day was hosted at King David Victory Park and the final of the competition took place in the evening under floodlights at Montrose Primary School.
Over 120 junior cricketers from various age groups participated in the tournament. Teams were formed by randomly selecting boys of different ages and were named after major Israeli cities, including Jerusalem, Haifa and Netanya. This method of selection ultimately produced some thrilling cricket action and displays of raw talent, even though they had no previous training together.
The positive effect the tournament had on the boys was evident and they thoroughly enjoyed playing 20/20 cricket with different age groups from different schools.
Congratulations to the Maccabi SA Junior Cricket Committee for all their hard work and effort which culminated in such a successful inaugural event. This tournament has great potential for growth and we look forward to it becoming a regular, well-supported community fixture on the Maccabi SA calendar.
