In 2017, Team Maccabi South Africa is bringing a delegation of close to 300 people in 30 teams across 17 sporting codes to the 20th Maccabiah. Comparative to it's community size, South Africa has one of the biggest delegations in the Maccabi Games and is always expected to do very well on the medals table.

Maccabi SA Raffle Winners Announced

Maccabi SA 2017 Raffle winners were drawn last night at the Johannesburg 20th Maccabiah Send Off Event by Maccabi SA Vice Chairman Des Hymen and Clive Blechman from Eastvaal Motors, who sponsored the Ford Figo Grand Prize! The Raffle raised over R1.6 Million, and all proceeds went directly to fund the participants of our delegation. A huge THANK YOU to all entrants for supporting our sports people!

On Wednesday 4 May 2016, a confident ‘’Israeli’’ team took on the mighty ‘’Azzurri’’ in a friendly soccer match at the Italian Sports Club in Milnerton, Cape Town. The match was played under floodlights and was well supported by friends & family. Both teams were represented by members of their respective communities who play soccer socially and/or at club level.

Maccabi SA Junior Cricket – Quest to defend gold medal begins

Maccabi SA has participated in Junior Cricket at the last 3 Maccabiot (2005, 2009 & 2013), winning the gold medal in all three tournaments and replicating the success of the senior cricket team that has dominated Maccabi cricket since the 1973 Games. Maccabi SA is fortunate in that the standard of cricket coaching in schools is excellent and allows for an easy transition for the team to the Maccabiah level of cricket.

Orienteering added to 2017 Games schedule

Maccabi World Union has announced that Orienteering will be included in the 2017 Maccabi Games for the first time as a competitive sport. However, at least 50 orienteers from five countries, in addition to Israel, must express their interest to participate for the event to be confirmed.

Theodore Yach conquers his 100th Robben Island Crossing
