Maccabi SA has had a successful history at the Maccabiah with many teams and individuals winning medals, starting at the 1953 Games and at every Maccabiah since. In recent years Team SA has won gold at the 2001, 2005 and 2013 Games.

Lawn bowls in general has unfortunately seen a drop in participation – at one stage 25% of all bowlers in South Africa were Jewish. However, Maccabi SA Bowls has undergone a revival under the enthusiastic leadership of Raymond Leibman who successfully hosted the first National Bowls Tournament in 18 years at Killarney Country Club in Johannesburg in 2014.

Maccabi SA Bowls is aiming to host at least one major national bowls tournament a year. Preparations for the 2017 Games will commence in early 2016 and there are also plans to send a team to Israel during the course of the year. Keep an eye on this page for updates.
