Maccabi SA first competed in cycling in the 2009 Games where Team Captain Issy Zimmerman won gold in the road race (age 40-49). In 2013 four riders brought home five medals (gold, 2 x silver, bronze), with SA champion cyclist Kevin Evans’ gold medal a major highlight of the Games.

Currently only road cycling is a sporting code at the Maccabiah, however the increasing popularity of mountain biking inspired Maccabi SA to successfully host four social MTB rides for the Jo’burg community during 2015, with plans to significantly increase the group in 2016. Keep an eye on this page for updates.

The team for the 2017 Games will be selected during the course of 2016 and will be made up of serious competitors as the standard of cycling at the Maccabiah is very high.
