\"\"On the occasion of our 80th anniversary, we celebrated our past accomplishments but also look ahead to the future to ensure that we are able to remain a sustainable organisation that adds value to the sporting community.<\/p>\n

Guest of Honour, Chief Rabbi Dr Warren Goldstein spoke to the guests about the importance of remaining active and healthy, as well being disciplined and sticking to your goals. The Chief Rabbi acknowledged the important role Maccabi has played in the community for 80 years, as both a strong supporter of Israel and through the many benefits of sport.<\/p>\n

Maccabi SA\u2019s new strategic direction is based upon two pipelines of Excellence and Participation<\/em>:<\/p>\n

The Excellence Programme<\/em> is focused on identifying and managing talent and assembling well prepared and competitive teams for the Maccabiah. Our planning for the 2017 Maccabi Games is well underway and the Head of Delegation has been appointed. \u2018\u2019I am delighted to officially announce that long serving Maccabi SA member, Treasurer and Golf President Mr Leslie Cohen is our 2017 Head of Delegation. I am confident Les\u00a0will do an outstanding job of leading Team Maccabi SA at the Games\u2019\u2019 commented Clifford Garrun, Maccabi SA Chairman.<\/p>\n

Maccabi SA has established the Maccabiah Youth Fund to assist Juniors in genuine need of financial support to attend the Games and experience Israel. For further information on contributing to this worthy programme, please contact us on admin@maccabi.co.za<\/a><\/p>\n

The second pipeline is Participation<\/em> wherein we have implemented a comprehensive programme of events for all ages and abilities. We are particularly focused on \u2018\u2019de-couching\u2019\u2019 the youth, in order to get them outdoors and leading active, healthier lifestyles.<\/p>\n

We have thus shifted focus from being a primarily Games focused organisation, to providing a meaningful, relevant sports service for the whole Jewish community.<\/p>\n

\u201cI am very pleased with the new purpose and direction that Maccabi SA has taken. I have great confidence in the leadership and am certain the organisation will go from strength to strength,\u2019\u2019 commented Maccabi SA President, Mervyn Tankelowitz.<\/p>\n

We are also very proud to announce the launch of the inaugural Maccabi SA Ambassador Programme (MAP). We have selected a group of talented sportspersons who represent a cross section of the sporting landscape and whose achievements, appeal and values best match our organisation.<\/p>\n

The purpose of MAP is to utilise the influence and credibility of these role models to represent the Maccabi SA brand in order to really connect with, mentor and motivate our audience.<\/p>\n

The Maccabi SA Ambassadors are: Adam Bacher (cricket), Dr Ali Bacher (cricket), Dr Shane Dorfman (karate), Dean Furman (football), Jonathan Kaplan (rugby), Richard Kaplan (golf), Lance Metz (mountaineer), Shireen Sapiro (swimmer) and Mandy Yachad (cricket, hockey).<\/p>\n

\u2018\u2019We are honoured to be represented by these accomplished stars. They have all excelled in their chosen fields while some are also multiple medal winning Maccabians.\u00a0From the Captain of Bafana Bafana (Furman), a 7th<\/sup> Dan eight-time World Champion (Dorfman), a Paralympic gold medalist (Sapiro) to two Jewish Sports Hall of Fame inductees (Dr Bacher, J Kaplan) to mention just a few feats, we are fortunate to have access to such a remarkable pool of talent to inspire our audience,\u2019\u2019 added Garrun.<\/p>\n

Maccabi SA would like to thank all the guests who attended the event, including past and present administrators, schools and youth movement representatives, as well as the Maccabi team of volunteer convenors, coaches and support staff, without whom we could not succeed.<\/p>\n
