Following a meeting of Maccabi World Union and global leadership, the decision was made to postpone the 21st Maccabiah to the northern summer of 2022.<\/p>\n
The dates for the 21st Maccabiah will be 12 – 26 July 2022. The Opening Ceremony will be held on 14 July and the Closing Ceremony on 25 July.<\/p>\n

The main reason for the postponement of the Maccabiah is due to the postponement of the Summer Olympics to July-August 2021, which would have been at the same time as the Maccabiah. A key goal of the Maccabi Games is to facilitate the participation of the top Jewish athletes from around the world, to compete alongside Israeli Olympic athletes. This would not have been possible if both events were held in 2021.<\/p>\n
The first Maccabiah took place in 1932 in Tel Aviv and with the exception of WW2 has never been cancelled and has always taken place a year after the Olympics.<\/p>\n
The postponement of the Maccabiah by one year will assist the global Maccabi leadership to recover from the impact of Covid-19 and to ensure that a record number of athletes participate in the Jewish Olympics.<\/p>\n
At Maccabi SA, we are committed to using this additional time to provide the best possible preparation and delivery of hopefully our most successful delegation ever!<\/p>\n
We will revise our planning and communicate the new timelines in due course. For those teams or individuals who have already been selected or invited to final trials, we will advise accordingly.<\/p>\n
