A total of 42 participants competed in both the team event and a singles event. The skills on display were outstanding and made for some exciting matches throughout the day.<\/p>\n
During the halfway stage of the tournament\u00a0an exhibition match took place between two of South Africa\u2019s top players: Luke Abrahams and Chijioke Osuji (also KDL School Coach). The pair left the young players absolutely astounded by their skills and hopefully inspired them to pursue table tennis more seriously. Top Jewish table tennis player and 2013 Maccabian, Tevia Sapire, was also on hand during the day to give guidance and advice to the participants.<\/p>\n
The tournament\u2019s U18 Singles winner Danica Schlome recently received a call-up from the South African Table Tennis Board to attend training with the National Junior Squad in preparation for the 2016 African and World Youth Championships. Danica competed at the 2013 Maccabi Games in Israel winning a bronze in both the Junior Team and Doubles events, reaching the quarterfinals of the competition. She is currently ranked 6th<\/sup> in South Africa and number one in Gauteng.<\/p>\n Tournament Results Team Event U15 Team Event U18 Singles Event U15 Singles Event U18 Well done to all the players who took part in the day.
