Jerusalem Jet wins 947 Tandem Elite Title

Maccabi SA Cycling Convenor and Maccabiah gold medallist Issy Zimmerman lived up to his social media name ‘’Jerusalem Jet” when, together with cycling partner Andrew McLean, they defended their Tandem Elite Mens title at the Momentum 947 Cycle Challenge on Sunday 15 November 2015.

The pair, with a combined age of 99 and combined weight of 132kgs, came in with a winning time of 2 hours 21 min for 95 kms, beating their 2014 time of 2h52. Although they were up against much younger, elite opposition their experience paid off in the end.

McLean is a prolific South African champion cyclist and mountain biker and Director of Cycle Lab.

Zimmerman won gold at the 2009 Maccabiah in the 40-45 age category and bronze at the 2013 Games in the Road Race. Issy’s father, Maldwin Zimmerman won a gold medal at the 1953 Games for boxing (welterweight) and was in the stadium in Ramat Gan when his son won gold in 2009. Kol hakavod!
