The 2 visiting Cape Town team who represented Maccabi Western Province had a fantastic time over the 4 days. Some seriously good and competitive cricket was played by both Maccabi Gauteng and Western province in a 40 and T20overs format.
Sunday 29 April: U19 played 40 over match at Jeppe High School for Boys. Western Province batted first and posted a score of 273 for 2 in their 40 overs. Great batting performances were had by from Guy Sheena who made 94 runs off 64 balls and Ethan Nates for scoring 116 off 107 balls.
Gauteng came in to bat but were unfortunately bowled out for 206 with one ball to spare. Western Province won the match
Ethan Nates was Man of the Match.
The U13 age group was at Jeppe Quondam also playing a 40 over match. Gauteng batted first and posted a score of 244/9 in their 40 overs with Jordan Gamsy making 75 off 76 balls. A great bowling performance from Jarrod Zolty who bowled 8 overs, only conceding 35 runs and taking 3 wickets.

Gauteng made 121/5 in their 20 overs. Ethan Werb from WP bowled 4 overs taking 3 wickets and only conceding 28 runs
Ariel Somekh was man of the match for his 50 not out off 63 balls.
To change things up a bit, we mixed the teams for the day night match so these were mixed teams of Gauteng and WP.
Team one batted first and posted a score of 107/5
Team 2 were chasing 107 and scored 102/5. Tyron Kodesh even though he was on the losing team was awarded man of the match for his 50 run off 54 balls when he was retired. Ariel Somekh bowled 3 overs with 2 wickets and only conceded 7 runs. Great performances from all boys
U19’s: Gauteng went into bat first posting a score of 151/4. Cameron Smook making 74 off 49 balls.
WP made 154/2 in just 18.3 overs and they were again the winners.
Cameron Smook also on the losing team was awarded Man of the match.
Once again, to make thing interesting and even the playing fields, we split the teams up into 2 evenly matched sides.
This was quite a nail biting match with the first team going in to bat and making 111 runs for 2 wickets. Cameron Smook made 49 off 48 balls and Joey De Aguiar 48 off 50 with Michael Tankle bowling 3 overs with 2 wickets and only conceding 11 runs.
Team 2 won the match with 112 runs for 5 with 2 overs to go.
Great batting performances from Smook, de Aguiar and Aiden Wittels and bowling from Tankle . It was decided to award Man of the Match to Aiden Wittels from Wp for his 47 runs
Junior Gold winners of the tournament were Gauteng and Senior Gold winners were WP
Tuesday was our Chesed day and was in honour of Hugo Paluch (of blessed memory) and was aptly named Hugo’s Warmth. A team of 16 U 13 players from Alex and Soweto joined us for the day. Gauteng had collected 10 cricket bags of reusable equipment while WP kindly transported 2 boxes full of equipment all the way up from Cape Town.
Development teams played 16 over matches against each province while the seniors played 8 a side and great fun was had by all and Maccabi made a meaningful contribution to the development teams.
We cannot wait for the next Maccabi inter provincial cricket event!View Gallery Back to News
