WE’RE BRINGING OUR A-GAME!

13 February 2020
The Board of Maccabi SA has appointed a 2021 Games Committee who will provide the strategy, guidance and support for #TeamMaccabiSA21.

The Committee’s mandate is to ensure we take a motivated, competitive and well prepared team to the Maccabiah and represent South Africa with pride.

The group includes hugely experienced Maccabians who have attended multiple Games in various capacities. The 2021 Committee is (in alphabetical order): Farrell Cohen, Les Cohen, Simone Cohen, Clifford Garrun, Ros Goldin, Jarred Gronemann, Gina Isserow (WP), Saul Jackson (WP), Ryan Kalk, Ashley Kotzin and Elan Sawitzky.

The Head of Delegation (HoD) was also selected at the first meeting of the Games Committee held last week. This appointment takes place a bit earlier than usual, but we are clearly very focused on delivering an outstanding Games experience!

We are delighted to announced that Farrell Cohen will be Team Maccabi SA’s HoD.

Cohen, a highly respected physiotherapist with extensive sports experience, has served on the medical team at four Maccabiah, twice as Chief Medical Officer, and at the European Maccabi Games. A 2nd Dan black belt (don’t mess with our Rosh!), he was also Manager of Maccabi SA Karate at the 2013 Games, and works closely with Maccabi SA Rugby, recently providing medical support at Cape Town 10s.

Cliff Garrun, Chairman of the Board, congratulated Cohen on his appointment. ‘’We are very fortunate to have a person with Farrell’s experience and credentials leading our delegation. His passion for sport, knowledge of and dedication to Maccabi, and his desire to serve in a new and challenging capacity, epitomises the spirit of volunteerism that sustains Maccabi worldwide. We are confident he will be an excellent ambassador for SA and provide valuable leadership of the team.’’

‘’I am overjoyed and deeply honoured to be appointed Maccabi SA’s Head of Delegation for the 2021 Games. I am looking forward to a productive, fun and exciting journey ahead. One that will make Team Maccabi SA, our community and country proud,’’ said Cohen.
