Maccabi SA currently manages 16 sports codes. Our events programme consists of a diverse range of activities which accommodate the needs, interests and skills levels of all types of sportspersons, including social, recreational and competitive.
Maccabi SA caters for all ages, from primary school to active senior citizens in their 90’s, and we host events locally, mostly in Johannesburg and Cape Town, and also internationally. In everything we do we seek to instil our values and principles of teamwork, sportsmanship, respect, compassion, self-discipline and good citizenship.
Some of our more niche sports such as judo and karate are more geared towards the Games, while other sports like bowls, cricket, futsal, golf and squash also have a strong community participation focus.
Each Maccabi SA sport is headed up by a volunteer Sports Convenor. Their role is twofold: to organise and manage a local programme of events, and to select and manage team(s) and/or individuals to compete at the Maccabiah and other Regional Games.
The Maccabi Games currently offers 40 sporting events, including the newly added Orienteering, Lacrosse and 3v3 Basketball, however Maccabi SA focuses on those sports which have the most interest, participation and importantly, talent! If there are any sports which Maccabi SA does not offer but at which you excel and would like to compete in, for example triathlon, please contact us.
If you have any questions or require further information, please contact our Head Office or the relevant Convenor.
A list of Maccabi SA Convenors for 2020-21 will be published when finalised.
